About This English Grammar Test
This English grammar test is a free practice tool for learners at every level. Its question bank has 2,500 multiple-choice questions on five key topics, from beginner (A1) to advanced (C1). Every test gives you 20 random questions, so each attempt is different. You do not need to sign up or create an account.
What Grammar Topics Does the Test Cover?
You can test all topics together or filter by one topic to practise a weak area.
- Tenses: choosing the right verb form, such as “She goes to school every day” or “I have lived here since 2020”.
- Articles: using a, an, the, or no article, such as “an apple” and “the sun”.
- Prepositions: words like in, on, at, for and since, and fixed pairs such as “interested in” and “depend on”.
- Conditionals: “if” sentences, such as “If it rains, I will stay at home” and “If I had more time, I would learn French”.
- Passive voice: sentences such as “The letter was written yesterday”.
Which Levels Are Included?
The questions follow the CEFR scale used worldwide to describe language ability.
- A1 (Beginner): basic words and very simple sentences.
- A2 (Elementary): everyday situations and simple past and future.
- B1 (Intermediate): clear speaking and writing about familiar topics.
- B2 (Upper-Intermediate): more complex sentences and natural, fluent use.

How the Test Works
- Choose a difficulty: Mixed (all levels), Low (A1-A2), Medium (B1-B2) or Hard (B2-C1).
- Optionally, choose one topic with the “Filter by topic” buttons.
- Answer 20 questions. There is no time limit, and please do not use a book, dictionary or any other help, so your result is honest.
- See your score and estimated level, and read the reason for each wrong answer.
- Choose “Try Same Test Again” to repeat the same questions, or “New Test” for a fresh set.
Tips to Get Better Results
- Read every explanation for the answers you missed. This is where most of the learning happens.
- Use the topic filter to practise the area where you lost the most points.
- Retake the same test after a few days to see whether you remember the corrections.
- Test yourself regularly to track your progress over time.
Your level is an estimate based on your answers. It is useful for self-checking, but it is not an official certificate and does not replace exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, or Cambridge English.
